Concrete Pressure Pipe

Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe
AWWA C300

Reinforced concrete pressure pipe of the cylinder type consists of a welded steel cylinder with a steel joint ring welded at each end; a cage or cages of steel reinforcing bars or wire; an encasing wall of concrete; and a preformed gasket of rubber to provide the joint seal between adjacent pipes.

The pipe is manufactured in sizes ranging from 30 in. (760 mm) to more than 144 in. (3,660 mm) in diameter and is generally made in 16-ft through 24-ft (4.8-m through 7.5-m) laying lengths. Reinforced concrete pressure pipe, steel-cylinder type, is designed for the specific combination of internal pressure and external load required for the project.

This type of pipe is used for transmission lines in irrigation, industrial, and domestic water supply systems, as well as for distribution feeder mains and other uses.

Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe
AWWA C301

Concrete pressure pipe is an engineered product that combines the use of portland cement concrete and steel for the transmission of various liquids design for specific combinations of internal pressures and external loads.

There are two types of prestressed concrete steel-cylinder pipe: (1) the lined-cylinder type, with a core composed of a steel cylinder lined with concrete and subsequently wire-wrapped directly on the steel cylinder and coated with mortar; and (2) the embedded-cylinder type, with a core composed of a steel cylinder encased in concrete and subsequently wire-wrapped on the exterior concrete surface and coated with cement mortar. Both lined-cylinder type and embedded-cylinder type are design to withstand combined loading of specified hydrostatic pressures and external loads.

Prestressed concrete steel-cylinder pipe is used for transmission mains, distribution

feeder mains, pressure siphons (including river crossings), penstocks, industrial pressure lines, water intake lines, and other applicationS.

Applications

Reinforced concrete pressure pipe, non-cylinder type
AWWA C302

Reinforced concrete pressure pipe of the non cylinder type has been used extensively since the early twentieth century. This type of pipe is made with one or more cages of steel reinforcing bars or wire encased in concrete. The concrete is placed by vertical casting methods. Rubber-gasketed joints may have either steel or concrete bell-and-spigot surfaces.

The pipe is manufactured in sizes ranging from 12 in. (300 mm) to more than 144 in. (3,660mm) in diameter and is generally made in 8-ft (2.5-m) through 20-ft laying lengths.Reinforced concrete pressure pipe, non cylinder type, is designed for the specific combination of internal pressure and external load required for a project
